Biography

The son of Zaccheus Cande Sr and Rebecca (Churchill) Cande, Zaccheus Cande was born in Middletown, Connecticut in 1762.^[1] He married three times, first to Aspacia Nash (1766-1802), the daughter of Phineas Nash and Mary Hamlin, marrying in Sheffield Township, Massachusetts around 1800. They made their home in Sheffield Township.^[2]

His first wife passed away in 1802 and Zaccheus Cande remarried, marrying Hannah Whitney (1777-1820), the daughter of Cornelius Whitney and Hannah Green. Zaccheus Cande and Hannah Whitney married in Sheffield Township, Massachusetts around 1803,^{[citation needed]} having eight known children together:

2. Warren Cande (1806-1896)
3. Horace B. Cande (1807-1861)
4. Lola Cande (1809-1869)
5. Sophia Cande (1810-1880)
6. Zaccheus Theophilus Cande, IV (1812-1897)
7. Hannah Cande (1814-1837)
8. Lucinda Cande (1819-1820)

Zaccheus Cande's second wife died in 1820 and he remarried around that same year, marrying Tahpenes Botsford (1795-1871), the daughter of Ezra Botsford and Experience Curtiss and the widow of Levi Blancett. They had one known child together, Homer F. Cande (1829-1904). Zaccheus Cande passed away in Sheffield, Massachusetts^[3] at the age of 75 and is buried at Cande-Sage Cemetery in Sheffield.^[4]
