Ann Eliza Miller Obituary
Ann Eliza Canady died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. S. R. Shear, Friday morning May 15, 1908. She was born in Danville, Ill. November 11th 1832. In 1845 she moved to Wisconsin and was married there in 1848 to Mr. Ambrose J. Miller. With her husband she moved to Iowa in 1853 where Mr. Miller died the following year. Three children had been born to them, two of whom are living Mrs. S. R. Shear, of Jennings, La., and Mr. Collins W. Miller, of Falkton, S. Dak. In 1856 Mrs. Miller was married again. Her husband’s name was Mr. Orvil D. Miller. Four children were born of the union, two of whom are living Mrs. R. C. Snively, of Dublin, Texas and Mr. Joseph A. Miller, of Stuart, Neb.
Mrs. Miller spent a large part of her active life as a pioneer. With her father’s family and then with her own she kept moving westward to the newer parts of the less settled country. She had to endure many of the privations incident to the experiences of pioneer life. In addition, she had to suffer many bereavements and afflictions in her home. She had character, however, and the experiences of her life were allowed to be disciplinary. She developed a staunch Christian character. Moreover she ministered to others, seeking ever to develop in others the character she sought for herself. Wherever she went she started and established Sunday schools. Not the least among the jewels in the eternal gathering will be the hosts of those who as young people first learned the teaching of the Bible and came to a knowledge of the truth in the Sunday schools she established. Mrs. Miller was a worthy member of the M. E. church and adorned her life by good deeds. Her life closed with the testimony that it was well with her soul. No one could doubt the reality of her Christian faith and the substantial joy of her savior’s presence. A mother in Israel is gone. After a long life of varied experience and following a life of Christian activity she has gone to her reward: and it is well. Nothing can be more beautiful than to witness the going home of an aged Christian mother, which for her is better.[3]
