John was born about 1868. He was the son of Elcanah Capps and Sarah Williams. He passed away about 1951.

[Dowden-595 |William Thomas Dowden, Jr.] writes: Although the headstones for John Henry Capps and James Elmer Capps are both at Peebles Cemetery, near Goodrich, Polk County, Texas, and they both have clearly engraved birth and death dates, an obvious error exists because the birth date for John Henry Capps is too close to the birthdate of James. This issue is resolved by the United States Federal Census report for Polk County, Texas, in 1870; in this report, both John and James, sons of Elcanah Capps and Sarah Williams Capps are shown. John is shown as being only a year old; the census report was taken on June 25, 1870. John must have been born in Feb 1869, not 1868. However, the Texas Death Certificate for John Henry Capps shows his birth date as March 20, 1868.
