Biography

Roger was a Friend (Quaker)
Roger Carary was an early settler in New Jersey.

Roger was born in 1651. He was the son of Christopher Carary. He passed away in 1693.

"Roger Carary sonn of Christopher Carary and Margaret both of the County of Devon in the kingdome of England was borne in Ratcliffe Street in the Citty of Bristoll in the County of Summerset in the kingdom above said, on the 3d day of the 3d month 1651; and about the age of one and twenty he the said Roger transported for Dublin in Ireland and after hee had lived their[there] about five yeares hee tooke him to wife Elizabeth Steavenson daughter of John and Mary Steevenson both of the kingdome of England who transported themselves and their children for Dublin in Ireland when the above said Elizabeth Stevenson was but about 3 years of age, who lived from that time in or neare Dublin untill she was married at the meeting in Brids Ally in Dublin unto which meeting they did belonge; Rachel Carary daughter of Roger Carary by Elizabeth his wife was borne in Dublin in the yeare 1680 and upon the 22 day of the 9th month in the yeare 1681 the said Roger Carary and Elizabeth his wife did transporte themselves and their family from there unto America in the ship called the Owner's Adventure of London John Dagger being master who were landed at Elsinburgh neare Salem the 19 day of the 9th month 1681 and after their[there] at Salem the said Roger Carary and Elizabeth his wife had borne unto them a daughter named Mary Carary on the 22 day of the 12 month 1685."[1]
