Michael Carey was born in 1879.[1]
Michael was the son of Thomas Carey and his wife Bridget Quigley.[2]
On 9 March 1886, Bridget and Thomas Carey, and their six children, migrated to Australia, sailing from London as "Remittance Passengers" on the Steam Ship Bulimba under Captain Clarke, bound for Brisbane, Queensland.[3] Remittance Passengers were immigrants whose passage was paid for by a natural born or naturalised Australian sponsor residing in Queensland.[4]
Eight weeks later, 30 year-old Bridget Carey and her 35 year-old husband, Thomas Carey, and their six children: John 12, James 10, Michael 8,[2] Thomas 6, Edward 3, and Anne 1, disembarked from the Bulimba on May 3, 1886, in Brisbane, Queensland. They registered as Roman Catholic Immigrants from Ireland; twelve year-old John was considered an adult labourer; only Bridget and her husband Thomas and their oldest son John were literate.[1]
Michael Carey died in 1938,[2] and was buried at South Brisbane Cemetery.[5]
