Linda was born in Baltimore Maryland and lived there until she turned 10. In 1959 her grandfather McMahon died and her mother sent both Linda and her brother Mitchell across country on the train to Tucson Arizona where her fraternal grandmother kept them with her for a few months. The rest of the family joined them and they lived in Arizona for two years
During this time Linda's father moved in and out of their homes. He was an alcoholic and spent a lot of money on drink. The family moved out at night a few times because they could not pay the rent.
