Lizton: Mrs. Merle Mahan, age 46, died at her home here, January 4, following a long illness. Funeral services were conducted at the Christian church, Thursday afternoon, in charge of the Rev. Ora McDaniel of Advance. Burial was in the K. of P. cemetery. Mrs. Mahan was the daughter of Fielding and Elevee Carpenter. Her mother died when she was a small child and she was taken into the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Leathers. February 17, 1907, she was married to Merle Mahan. She was a member of the Lizton Christian church. Surviving are the husband, three children, Mrs. Mary Hopkins, Clifford and Argil, two grandchildren, two sisters and three brothers.
Alta's mother died when Alta was about 6 months old. Alta was then taken in and raised by Lewis Marion (#57486901) and Ida (Smith) Leathers.
