Biography

When Mary Carr was born on November 30, 1704, in King William, Virginia, her father, Maj Thomas Carr was 26, and her mother, Mary, was 25. The Carr family had close relationships with the Jeffersons of Virginia. Dabney Carr, a cousin married Thomas Jeffersons sister, was a close friend of our third President and is buried on Jeffersons family graveyard at Monticello. Mary Carr married Henry Chiles and they had 11 children together. She died on December 13, 1759, in Caroline, Virginia, at the age of 55, and was buried in Leicester, Leicestershire, England.
