Biography

Jesse Carroll was born in North Carolina.

Jesse Carroll, son of John and Nancy Ann (Hollingsworth) Carroll, married Margaret Chesnutt (1806-1879), circa 6 Dec 1826 in Duplin, North Carolina.^[1][2] Others say that his father John's first wife, Elizabeth Jane Hollingsworth, (Nancy Ann's sister) was his mother.

On 10 May 1828, Jesse was living in Sampson County, North Carolina and deeded 127 acres of land that he inherited from his father, John Carroll, to his brother, Laban Carroll of Duplin County.^[3]

By 1850, Jesse and his wife, Margaret, were living in Lowndes, Georgia.^[4] Among their children were:

1. Ann Eliza Carroll^[4] (ca. 1835-1898)
2. Francinia (Carroll)^[4] Sirmans (1836-1881)^[2]
3. Mary E (Carroll)^[4] Lamb (1839-1906)^[2]
4. Thirsie Jane (Carroll)^[4] Edson (1845-1910)^[2]

Apparent adopted son, Albert Osman Carroll, born between 1870 and 1876 [reportedly son of Samantha (Clements) Whelles (circa 1846-after 1920), who was also, then unmarried, in the 1880 Jesse Carroll household], is listed as his son in the 1880 census year that we find Jesse Carroll in Berrien, Georgia.^[5]

Jesse was buried at the Old Town Cemetery, Milltown, Lakeland, Lanier, Georgia.^[2]

Jesse was born in 1803. He passed away about 1876.
