Son of Thomas Carter, Sr. (1682-1737) and Ruth Phelps (1684-1739).
DOB also given as 12 Feb 1715 in Lancaster, Worcester Co, MA. DOD also given as 2 Mar 1802.
Thomas Carter, Jr. married Bette Sawyer (1722-1807) on 19 Jan 1739 in Woburn, Middlesex Co, MA. They had nine children: Thomas III (1741-1817); Elijah (1742-?); David (1745-?); Prudence (1746-1818); John (1748-1824); Phineas (1751-1834); Beatrix (1753-1839); Ruth (1756-1811); Vashti (1758-1760).
Place of burial: South Cemetery, Lunenburg, Worcester Co, MA.
Inscription on tombstone: "In memory of Cornet Thomas Carter, who died March 7th, 1802, in the 186th year of his age. Great God, I own this sentence just, and nature must decay, I yield my body to the dust, to dwell with they clay."
Born Apr. 30, 1716, m. Jan. 19, 1739, Betty Sawyer, dau. of EHas and Beatrix Sawyer, b. 1712, d. July, 1807, Thomas Carter lived in the easterly part of Lunenburg, and was called " Cornet Thomas Carter," the title of an office which he held under the king. He d. Mar. 2, 1802..[1]
Cornet was originally the third and lowest grade of commissioned officer in a British cavalry troop, after captain and lieutenant.[2]
