Biography

Jane Carter was born the 10th month, the 30th day of 1747 O.S. (see notes) a daughter of John Carter and Hannah Cope. On the 5th day of the ninth month, in 1771, Jane married James Painter, a son of Samuel and Esther Painter of East Bradford, Chester county, Pennsylvania. Children of Jane and James are:

1. Elizabeth Painter, born February 1, 1772, died October 19, 1823
2. Enos Painter, born December 1, 1773, died May 30, 1857
3. Hannah Painter born June 5, 1775, died August 23, 1848
4. John Painter, born March 6, 1778, died July 12, 1780
5. Phebe Painter, born September 7, 1781, died July 7, 1856

Researchers Notes

The 10th Month was not October in the Old Style Calendar. The O.S./N.S. designation is particularly relevant for dates which fall between the start of the "historical year" (1 January) and the legal start date, where different.
