Robert Carter was born August 22, 1735, in Spotsylvania, Virginia During the American Revolutionary War, Robert enlisted as a Private in Captain Clement Hall's Company, in the 2nd North Carolina Battalion, commanded by Colonel John Patton. [1] Robert is honored for his military service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR Ancestor #A020052. DAR records indicate that Robert died before November, 1784, in Bertie County, North Carolina [2]
"Robert Carter (1735-1784) together with his son, Isaac Carter (1756-1792) served in the North Carolina Battalion. Robert was discharged November 10, 1778, Isaac serving until the close of the war." [3]
The book, Descendants of Robert Carter of Bertie County, by Carolyn Agnes Foster Marbourg Foster-32775 was written by his third great-grandaughter, who researched this family and was vetted by the Daughters of the American Revolution.
