“Absolom Hallock Carey was born in Orange county, New York, July 30, 1831. His father, Absolom Carey, a farmer, was born in the same place in 1802. In January, 1832, he moved to Chemung county in the same State, in which place his son grew to maturity. Absolom Carey was married, in 1827, to Elizabeth, daughter of Zebulon and Bethiah (Booth) Hallock. ….
The paternal grandfather of Absolom H. Carey, who also bore the name of Absolom, was a native of Orange county, N.Y., from which place he removed to Chemung, where he died at the age of eighty.”
