Helgot's land holdings in the 1086 Domesday book are near the Welsh border, mainly in Shropshire, and are the basis of the feudal barony of Holgate or Holdgate.[1]
In 1086 he held his lands not directly from the king, but mainly from Roger de Montgomery, the Earl of Shrewsbury.
Keats-Rohan says that he was first succeeded by a son named Eutrop, and then by a younger son Herbert.[2]
It is not clear why the PASE website seems to connect Helgot to Furches, but it presumably means that there is a belief that Helgot was related to another his contemporary in Shropshire, Herbert de Furches (Keats-Rohan, p.249).
The same understanding appears in a 2017 thesis, but the references to Eyton and Wightman do not seem to justify an equation of Helgot's son Herbert with Herbert of Furches who was a Lacy tenant, and had different heirs.[3]
