Captain Alfonso Castro was Killed in Action during the Vietnam War.
Captain Alfonso Roque Castro was born on the 16th of February 1943.[1][2][3][4][5][6] He was the son of Alfonso Regino Castro and Elizabeth Belen (Anton) Castro.[6] In 1954 his family lived in Los Angeles, California,[7] where he was born. Their religion was Roman Catholic.[6]
Alfonso enlisted in the Army in March of 1967,[8] starting his tour in Vietnam in December of 1968.[4] He was a Captain and a Rotary Wing Aviator in the 1st Aviation Brigade in the 10th Aviation Battalion.[4] Alfonso went missing on the 4th of November 1969,[1][4] at the age of twenty-six.[5] Cause of death was listed as aircraft loss, crash not at sea.[5] His death was not officially reported until the 2nd of September 1973.[6] Military funeral services were held on the 29th of September, in San Gabriel.[6] He is buried at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, California[9] and is remembered at the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C. and at the Montebello Veterans Memorial. Alfonso was predeceased by two paternal uncles and a maternal uncle. Survivors were both of his parents, his aunts, his uncles, and two sisters.[6]
