London Township was first settled in the early 1800s and contained the communities of Arva, Ballymote, Birr, Brecon (Denfield), Bryanston, Crampton, Crumlin, Devizes, Edgewood, Elginfield, Ettrick, Fanshawe, Geary Corners, Hopedale, Hyde Park, Ilderton, London Junction, Maple Grove, Masonville, Melrose, Muir, Pottersburg, Salmonville, Silverwood, Southgate, St. John’s, Telfer, The Gore, The Grove, Truthville, Union Hill and Vanneck.
The Corporation of the Township of Middlesex Centre, Ontario was formed on January 1, 1998, with the amalgamation of the former Townships of Delaware, Lobo, and London. It is part of the City of London census metropolitan area. Various sections of the southern part of the original township were annexed to London during the late 19th and 20th centuries. Middlesex Centre wraps around London on the north and the west.
