John was born in Liberty County, Georgia in 1840 to Raymond and Eliza Ann (Stetson) Cay [1][2].

  • Troop G, 6th Georgia Cavalry, Anderson-Robertson Brigade, Wheeler's Corps, for the Confederate States of America during the Civil War[3]
  • Captured, Dec 1864, imprisoned at Point Lookout [3]
  • Maj. Varnedoe's article [3] has several stories about his exploits during the Civil War.
