Jasper J. Chaffin was born in Kentucky around 1839. In 1850, he lived in Boone County.[1]

He moved to Arkansas sometime after 1850. He married Sarah Ann McEver on August 14, 1861 in Pope County, Arkansas.[2]

When the Civil War started, unlike his father and brothers, he enlisted in the Confederate Army on June 1, 1862 as a Sergeant. He was assigned to the 35th Arkansas Infantry.[3][4] The unit was later re-designated the 22nd Arkansas Infantry, also known as 1st Rector's War Arkansas Infantry Regiment. The unit fought at the Battle of Bayou Fourche, Battle of Helena and Battle of Jenkins Ferry.[5]

After the war, he returned home and lived in Illinois Township, Pope County, Arkansas near the Dover post office. He worked as a teacher to earn his living.[6]

Jasper died on February 19, 1875 in Russellville, Pope County, Arkansas.[7]
