Biography

Joseph Theophile Chaisson was born on July 5, 1879 in Montegut, Terrebonne, Louisiana, United States, son of Ferdinand Leon Chaisson (1849–1932) and Louise Belanger (1853–1883).

Joseph married Julie Eugenia Plessala (1882-1972), daughter of Oscar Paul Plessala (1857-1910) and Malazie Terrebonne (1863-1899) on 30 April 1902 in Morgan City, St. Mary, Louisiana, United States. Their children were:

In the 1910 census Joseph (age 31) , head of household, fisherman, at Gulf, lived with his wife of nine years, Julia (age 29), their daughters, Hilda (age 8), Dorothy (age 4), their sons, Aaron (age 6), Enolion (age 2),in Morgan, St Mary, Louisiana, United States. Augustine Plessala (age 20), Oscar Plessala (age 15), Jules Plessalla (age 11), Julia's siblings, lived with them after the death of their father in 1910. Their mother died in 1899.^[6]

In the 1920 census Theophile (age 40), head of household, fisherman, could not read or write, lived with his wife, Julia (age 37), their daughters, Hilda (age 17), Dorothy (age 13), Isabel (age 9), Mazie (age 2 years, 11 months), their sons, Aaron (age 15), Nolan (age 11), Theophile (age 6), John C. (age 8 months) in St. Mary, Louisiana, United States.^[7]

In the 1930 census Chasson (age 50), head of household, real estate $1,500, shipyard laborer, lived with his wife of 26 years, Julia (age 45), their sons, Aren (age 26), ship yard, Nolan (age 21), Joseph T. (age 16), George (age 10), their daughters, Dorothy (age 24), Isabel (age 19), Mazie (age 12) in Morgan City, St. Mary, Louisiana, United States.^[8]

In the 1940 census Joseph (age 60), head of household, shipyard laborer, lived with his wife, Julia (age 57), their daughter Mazie (age 23), their son Cyril (age 20), filling station, attendant, in Ward Six, St. Mary, Louisiana, United States.^[9]

Joseph died on April 27, 1944 in Morgan City, Saint Mary, Louisiana, aged 64. ^[10] He was buried in Willow Grove Cemetery, Berwick, St.

Mr. Joseph Theophile Chaisson, 64 years of age, died thursday April 27, at his home in Morgan City. The funeral was held at five o'clock p.m. Friday, Spril 28, from Fleury's Funeral Home with religious services at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment was in Willow Grove Cemetery, Berwick. M. Chaisson was a native of Houa but spent the last forty-three years of his live in morgan City. Before his illness, he was employed at the intercoastal Shipyard. He was employed in some marine activity all his life.^[11]
