Margaret or Alice was born in Platteville, Grant County, Wisconsin in September of 1843 [1], a daughter of Joseph Chalder and Alice Waller.

Alice married Leonard Radford in Dubuque, Iowa on 24 December 1860. [4] They had at least eight children together.
