Birth & Upbringing: Leonard was born in Newham, Hampshire c.1885. He was the son of John Isgar Champion and his wife Caroline Kate Plowman. [1]
He went to work for his uncle, Albert Percy Plowman and aunt Ada Harriet, née Nichols, who lived in London and ran a drapery business. In 1901 he was living with Percy and Ada and their 7 year old son, Oswald Cheyney.

Military Service: There is some conflict between Leonard's service in the British South Africa Police as stated below, and that he may have actually served in the Northern Rhodesia Police.
Occupation: Policeman - joined the BSA Police in March 1911;Reg. No. 1412; served until October 1918. [3]
Demise: Killed in action while serving as a Trooper with in Sonces, Tanzania World War I, [4] [5]. He was 33 years of age.
Burial: He was buried at the Dar es Salaam War Cemetery, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (Plot 5D3). [6] There is also a memorial stone in the Churchyard of St James the Less, Lancing, West Sussex. [1]
