The 1875 Vilas genealogy says that William James Chandler was born at Alstead, New Hampshire, on 10 Mar 1833, the son of James Chandler and Sophia (Tuttle) Chandler.[1] His death record says that he was born at Walpole, New Hampshire.[2] The will of William Tuttle, made in 1846, names William J. Chandler, the son of his deceased daughter Sophia Chandler.[3]
William James Chandler, farmer of Walpole, New Hampshire, 49, married Augusta H. Mellish, 42, of Langdon, New Hampshire, the daughter of Samuel and Huldah Mellish, at Alstead, New Hampshire, on 21 Sep 1881. It was the first marriage for both.[4] There were no known children from the marriage.
William J. Chandler died of melancholia at Langdon, New Hampshire, on 6 Dec 1893, with his age at his death recorded as 61 years, 8 months, 26 days.[2]
