Biography

Malvina Amanda Chapman^[1] was born on July 7, 1833, in Bethel, Maine, the daughter of Timothy Chapman and Abigail Blanchard.^[2][3][4]

On December 11, 1853, she married Samuel Barker Twitchell. They lived in Bethel, and had the following children:^[3][5][6]

1. Marion Blanchard, b. 4 Nov 1855; m. Clarence W. Hobbs; resided in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1905^[7]
2. Susie Barker, b. 17 Nov 1861; unmarried in 1905^[7]
3. Florence Eliza, b. 12 Oct 1869; unmarried in 1905^[7]

She died on February 9, 1889, in Bethel, Maine.^[8] She is buried in Riverside Cemetery in Bethel.^[9][10] Her obituary:^[8]

Mrs. S. B. Twitchell died Saturday evening at her home in Bethel after a long and painful illness. Aged 55 years, 7 months. Ever forgetful of self she ministered to the wants of others even in her weakness. The second Congregational church has lost one of its valued members, the poor a true friend, the community a large hearted benevolent member. She leaves a husband and three daughters. The funeral was held Tuesday, Rev. D. W. Hardy officiating. A large concourse of people showed their respects by their presence.
