Florence Minnie 'Dot' Cheers was born on 12th October 1906 in Maryborough, Victoria, Australia. She was the eldest daughter of Alfred Cheers and Minnie Simmons. [1]
She became an elocution teacher.
Dot married Herb Brown, better known as country music great Smoky Dawson, on 13th March 1944 in Victoria. [2] They had met nine years earlier when both worked in radio.
Althought the couple did not have children, their love of young ones led them to purchase a property and establish the Smoky Dawson Ranch as a campsite for children's vacations, a horse riding school and as a venue for country music concerts.
Aged 104 years and having been widowed for two years, Dot passed away on 27th October 2010 in the Chisholm Nursing Home, Lane Cove, New South Wales.
