Biography

Rhoda Chesebrough was born 4 Aug 1801 @ Stonington, Connecticut. She was a daughter of Ezra Chesebrough and Sarah "Sally" Denison Palmer.

She was a Mayflower descendant of John Tilley (1593-1673), his daughter Elizabeth Tilley (1607-1687) and her husband John Howland (1593-1673) [1]

Rhoda Chesebrough married in November 1820 @ Stonington, Connecticut, Cyrus Grant [2],[3]. They had 7 children [4]:

  1. Almira C. (Grant) Tinker (1822-1862); married Samuel W. Tinker
  2. Nathan Breed Grant (1824-1874); married 1) Sarah Elizabeth Robinson; 2) Juliet H. Hedges; 3) Helen A. Hedges
  3. Ezra Chesebrough Grant (1826-1884)
  4. Denison Palmer Grant (1827-); married Emma Jane Gordon
  5. Anson F. Grant (1829-)
  6. Emma (Grant) Topping (1833-1864)
  7. Jane (Grant) Palmer (1836-); married Edwin Alexander Palmer

This family was enumerated in the 1850 U.S. census of Southampton, New York [5]. In 1860, they were counted in Westfield, New Jersey [6]. By 1870, Rhoda (widowed) was residing in the household of her son Anson and his family, remaining in Westfield [7].

Rhoda (Chesebrough) Grant died 19 Aug 1887 @ Greeley, Colorado. Her grave is in Linn Grove Cemetery, Greeley, Weld County, Colorado, USA [8].
