She was the daughter of Fred Chesner and Bertha Henning. Sister of Fred Chesner, Elma Pauline (Chesner) Bishop, Alfred Chesner and Charles A. Chesner.

Husband was Daniel McLean, son of Duncan McLean and Rose Purdy, born in Canada about 1905.
When the 1930 Census was taken on April 21, Clara was living with her mother, son Duncan, and some siblings at 1684 Courtland Ave., Detroit, Michigan.
