Francis was born about 1482.[1] He was the son of William Cheyne[1] and Isabel Boleyn.
On 1 July, a Commission regarding William Cheyne resulted in an inquisition on 16 July, 14 Henry VII [1499], which found William died on 8 May, 2 Henry VII [1487], and his son and heir, Francis Cheyne, was aged 5 and more at the time of his father's death, and when aged 15, Francis married one — the daughter of John Brereton; on the day of the inquisition Francis was aged 17 and more.[2]
On 10 May, 1512, Henry VIII, king of England, granted by charter, in tail to William Compton on the marriage of William and Dame Walberowe or Warburga Cheyne, widow of Sir Francis Cheyne, of the manors of Elcombe and Ufcote, Wiltshire, and Poleplace, Berkshire, with and annuity of 8l out of the manor of Denford, Wilstshire (sic) and all other possessions of Francis late viscount of Lovell, or of William late viscount of Lovell.[3]
