Biography
Polly appears to have abandoned her husband, William Chinn, and her small children leading up to her marrying William Barton in 1819. William Chinn appears to have told his children wild tales about their mother: that she was a Blackfoot Indian from Pennsylvania. DNA evidence however not only shows no Native American DNA, but that she was the daughter of William Ball Chinn of Kentucky.
