1836 E P Gaines Chisum died in the massacre at Goliad in Texas after the Battle of San Patricio – was captured and executed by orders of Santa Anna. His heirs received a land grant in Texas for land. He served 2 months from the 25 day of Dec 1835 to 29 Feb 1836 and was killed at Goliad. His heirs (brothers and sisters) recd 1920 acres in Texas.
A second set of affidavits were filled for James Madison Chisum’s heirs in 1876:
James Madison Chisum, his sole surviving heir in 1876 was Mary Parchman formerly Mary Chism (married to W M Parchman)
– his wife Mrs Louisa Chism made oath that she was widow of James Madison Chism decd in 1875

(NOTE: James Madison Chisum did not sign the conveyance that his other siblings had made in this land grant in 1837, so still had an interest in this land grant – and must be why there were subsequent affidavits filed by his wife Louisa on behalf of their daughter Mary Chisum Parchman who had married W M Parchman)

Affidavits were filled stating that E P Gaines Chisum’s siblings were:
1) James Madison Chisum, James' sole surviving heir in 1876 was Mary Parchman formerly Mary Chism (married to W M Parchman)
– James M Chisum's wife Mrs Louisa Chism made oath that she was widow of James Madison Chism decd in 1875
2) William Chisum – brother
3) Van Chisum – brother
4) Elizabeth Chisum – sister married Seth Cason
5) Tabitha Chisum – sister married William Dickson
6) Sarah Chisum – sister married John Miller
Affidavit swearing to the above siblings were John G Chisum & William H. Chisum.
They resided in Madison County, Tennessee.
1837 Aug 30 – Madison County, Tennessee } Affid of heirs of E P Gains Chisum:
We Seth Cason, John Miller, William Dickson & Van Chisum, all of the County of Madison and State of Tennessee have this day … convey unto Thomas Reed of the County and State afsd all the right title … we have in and to the lands belonging to Gains Chisum decd who departed this life in Texas some time in the year 1836. The lands hereby conveyed are situated lying and being in the Province of Texas. Said land is due to Gains Chism and his representatives by virtue of his services as a soldier in Col Fannings Army. … for the valuable consideration of 600 dollars to us in hand paid …. convey … to the above described land … to the said Thomas Read … seal this 30th day of August AD 1839.
