Biography

Michael was born in 1864.^[1] He was the son of James Chorley and Mary Donnelly. He passed away in 1904.^[2] He is buried in the Tenterfield Cemetery, New South Wales.^[3]

Michael passed away at relatively young age of 40.

The Late Mr. M. J. Chorley
It is with profound regret we are called upon to chronicle the demise of Mr. Michael John Chorley, the second eldest son of Mr. James Chorley; of Green Swamp, which sad event took place early on-Saturday morning last. Deceased, who was a native of Tenterfield, and had reached the age of 40 years and 2 months,
first complained of a sore throat on Sunday last, and: although medical aid was called in on Tuesday, no serious danger was apprehended and it was not until Friday he was compelled to take to bed, when he gradually grew worse and passed quietly away, in his sleep early on Saturday morning, his sudden and untimely demise coming as a great shock to his many relatives and friends. The immediate cause of death was due to acute inflammation of the kidneys. Deceased, who was a most unassuming young man, was unmarried, and was deservedly popular with all with whom he came in contact, as was evidenced by the large number who attended to pay their last respects to one who had proved himself a worthy and honorable citizen.
The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon the cortege, which comprised, 61 vehicles and 120 horsemen, being the largest witnessed in Tenterfield for many years. The Rev. Father Leonard held prayers at the Church and the grave, whilst the funeral arrangements were in the hands of Mr. T. Clarke, the casket being of polished cedar, embellished with silver mountings. Much sympathy for the bereaved parents and relatives is manifested.^[4]
