Biography

Samuel Frederick Christmas was born in about 1825 in England ^[1]. He was the son of Samuel and Elizabeth Christmas and he was a carpenter.

He married Eliza Ann Till, daughter of James Till (CourtMaster) in 1849 at St Nicholas Church, Brighton, Sussex. Recorded as living at 7 Cumberland Place ^[2][3] They are shown in the 1851 Census in Hove, Sussex, England as Fredc 25 Brighton Sussex, Eliza 24 Tunbridge Wells Kent and Samuel 0 Hove, Sussex ^[4]. Between 1854 and 1862 the family move to South Africa eventually immigrating to New Zealand in 1864.

Frederick immigrated to New Zealand from Cape Town, South Africa arriving in Auckland on 24 Dec 1864, with his wife and children aboard the Reiherstieg in 1864 (Frederick 38, Elizabeth Ann 38, Samuel Frederick 14, Harry 12, George James 11, Elizabeth 3).

He passed away in 1908 aged 81.^[5] He was buried in Purewa Cemetery, Auckland ^[6].
