Biography

Jane (Clack) Hummerston was born in Finsbury, Middlesex, England.

Jane was baptised in St Luke Old Street Finsbury on 15 September 1805, the daughter of James Clack and Jane.[1]

She married Daniel Hummerston in St Anne Limehouse on 4 December 1824.[2]

Jane and Daniel had eight children:

  • William Daniel Hummerston (1830-1838).[3]
  • Henry James Hummerstone (1832-1838).[4]
  • Thomas John Hummerston (1835-1837).[5]
  • Jane Elizabeth Hummerston (1837).[6]
  • Emma Eliza Hummerston (1840).[7]
  • Hannah Maria Hummerston (1842).[8]
  • Jemima Hummerston (born 1844).[9]
  • Ellen Hummerston (1850).[10]

In the 1841 census Mary (age 25) was in St George Middlesex, Middlesex, England.[11]

In the 1851 census Mary (age 47) was the wife of Dan Humberston in St George in the East, Middlesex, England.[12]

She died in St George in the East Workhouse, Raine St Wapping on 26 August 1858.[13]

Research Notes

Jane is always named "Mary" in the censuses, but she is Jane in all the birth registrations for her children. She seems to have been admitted to the Workhouse under the name "Mary" and her death was registered by the Workhouse under the name "Mary Hummerstone"
