Biography

Maurice is shown in the 1930 Census as 8 years old and living, along with his brother Charles and older sister Nellie, with a large extended family. The HOH is Charlie Gowdy, who is one of 3 widowed adults living there, including his mother Mary 60 and his sister Mary 30. There are 11 children 13 or younger, 5 of Charlie's own children, 3 his sister's children (Hawkins) and 2 nephews and 1 niece who are listed as Gowdy's. These 3 children are Charlie 13, Nellie 11 and Maurice 8.

Personal Note: Charlie was my father, Charles William Clark. He told me that he and his siblings had been left by his parents Ida Gowdy and father William Charles, and that they had been raised by a "mean old aunt." He also told me that Maurice had run away, somewhere out west he thought,

Maurice married Roella Jensen Feb 25, 1939 in Manti, Sanpete, Utah. The Western States Marriage Record Index shows that he was 21 and living in Memphis, Tennessee, while Roella was 16 and living in Mayfield, Sanpete, Utah. ^[1]

Maurice was 25 and his second wife, Wilma Viola George was 22 when they had their first son, Calvin M Clark, on January 18, 1947 in Pondera, Montana.
