Biography

Thankful was born to John Clark, Jr. and his wife Betsey on 26 Apr 1793 in Plymouth, Massachusetts.^[1] She was their first and only child. Betsey died in 1795 and John passed away in 1806. Four years later, she married Charles Peterson 15 Jan 1810 in Plymouth, Massachusetts.^[2] They had a large family.^[3]The Peterson Family of Duxbury, reprinted from the New England historical and genealogical register for April, July, and October, 1916 ^[4] lists a number of children:

John Clark, b. in 1811; m. (1) in 1835 Lucy G. Holmes, dau. of Seth; m (2) and Holden, 5 Sept. 1839, Roxana L. Howard, dau. of Joseph of Holden.

Betsey Thomas, b. in 1815.

Charles Henry, b. in 1817; m. (1) in 1842 Lucy Clark, dau. of Ezra; m. (2) in 1868 Ellen (Lee) Washburn, dau. of Henry and widow of Charles.

David Lewis, of Duxbury, mariner, b. in 1819; d. at Duxbury 7 Jan 1894; m. in 1842 Rachel T. Valler, dau. of Simeon.

Sylvester Holmes, b. in 1822; m. in 1850 Matilda Scattergood, dau. of David of Philadelphia, Pa.

Daniel Porter, b. in 1826; m. in 1853 Jerusha M. Clark, dau. of Benjamin

George Soule, b. in 1830; m. in 1854 Elizabeth Faunce, dau. of Thaddeus.

Sadly, Charles died in 1845, and Thankful was on her own. Sort of. In the 1850 census, Thankful was the head of household, but a male relative (grandson?) is listed as the farmer.^[5]

By 1860, it looks as though they've all cleared out except for Laura and possibly Sarah (there is a Sarah Babcock and child listed).^[7]

Thankful died in 1863 and was buried in Plymouth.^[8]
