James served in the Civil War. He enlisted as a Private, aged 24 yrs. in Co. I of the 14th Regiment, 19 Nov. 1861. He was light complexioned, blue eyes and light hair, 5 ft. 9 inches in height. He was residing in Aroostook County at the time of enlistment. He left the service on 2 Feb. 1862. Their marriage intentions were posted 28 Apr. 1867. Their marriage was reported in the Courier-Gazette of 10 May 1867. They were both 'of Northport, Me.'

Her obituary reads: "Georgia S., wife of James H. Clark, died very unexpectedly Friday, October 30th, at 5 a.m at her home on Upper High street. Although in delicate health, having suffered 25 years with the asthma, she had been better of late and about a week ago drove to Searsmont and back. She contracted a cold at this time which, induced heart failure. She was born in Northport, April 6, 1845, the only child of the late George S. and Sarah Elms Pitcher and moved to this city about 35 years ago. While able, she was a constant attendant at the Aurora Rebekah Lodge and was a member of Mystic Grange, Belmont. She was a kind neighbor and true friend. The bereaved husband has the sympathy of all who know of his unusual loneliness. In a crippled condition and nearly blind, he has been encouraged and sustained by the kind and devoted wife. The funeral took place at her late home Tuesday at 2 p.m conducted by Rev. Ashley A. Smith of the Universalist church. The bearers were Messrs. Fred A. Tibbetts, Chester L. Pooler, Edgar L. Harding and Capt. James H. Perkins. The interment was in the Pitcher lot in Grove Cemetery." She was aged 63 years, 7 months and 24 days. [Coombs Funeral Register]
