Catherine Clark was born November 25, 1691 in Kittery, York County, Maine. She was the daughter of Elisha Clark and Sarah Taylor Clark.^{[1] [2]}

Catherine was married in Portsmouth, Rockingham County, New Hampshire November 20, 1712 to Matthew James. His parents are unknown. ^{[3] [2][4]}
