Biography

Jack Duncan Clerke is born on December 8, 1912, in Taree, New South Wales, Australia [1][2]. His parents are Peter James Clerke (1877-1927) & Edith Maud Cameron (1883-?). Jack’s grandfather, Seward Large Clerke (1836-1930), was from Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland [2]. Jack’s father was a mail contractor [2].

On March 23, 1940, Jack marries Hilda Laurel Bowden Cox (1920-1991) in Taree [1][2][3]. They have two children:

• Colin Cameron Clerke 1940-2017 + (1969) Carolyn R. Hardy 1941-?

• Robyn K, Clerke 1944-? + (1964) Robert Williams 1945-?

Not much else is known about the life of Jack except that, in the 1930s, it is known that he was a hairdresser living in Tinonee [4]. Tinonee is a small town on the south side of the Manning River, across from Taree.

Hilda dies in 1991. Jack dies the following year – October 20, 1992 -- at the age of 70. They are buried together in the Dawson River Lawn Cemetery in Cundletown (near Taree) [5]
