Biography

Capt. Joseph Cleveland, the son of Josiah Cleveland, was born at Chelmsford, Massachusetts on June 13, 1692. He married Deborah Butterfield on May 19, 1718 and they had three children, Jonas, Sybil, and John before her death. On June 24, 1725 Joseph married Mary Woodward, the daughter of John Woodward, and had 11 more children: Deborah, Bridget, Joseph, Mary, Hannah, Abijah, Rachel, Jonathan, Jesse, Mary, and Sarah. Joseph died May 11, 1752.[1]

"Captain" Joseph Cleveland was the son of Josiah Cleveland and Mary Bates. His cousin "Sargeant" Joseph Cleveland was the son of Samuel Cleveland and Persis Hildreth.[2] He is buried at South Cemetery, Brooklyn, Windham, CT
