Biography

Private Bosman Clifton served in the United States in the War of 1812
Service started: May 20, 1813
Unit(s): Missouri; Rangers
Service ended: May 18, 1814

Bosman Clifton was born 19 July 1790 in Delaware,[1] son of the elder Bosman Clifton . Bosman made his way from Delaware to Missouri Territory by 20 May 1813, when he enlisted in the service,[2] fighting in the War of 1812 with the Rangers in Missouri. He served until he was discharged 18 May 1814.[2] Just a few months after leaving the service, on 11 August 1814 in Saint Charles County, Missouri, he married Sarah Zumwalt.[3][1]
By 1825 Sarah and Bosman had 5 children born in Saint Charles County, Missouri: Elizabeth (28 August 1815), William (23 May 1817), Andrew (1 September 1820), Sarah Ann (15 March 1822), and Granville Thomas Lewis (18 April 1825).[4] They added three more after leaving Saint Charles County: James Brown Clifton born 8 March 1827 in an unrecorded county in Missouri, Nancy Emily 23 June 1829 in Calloway County, Missouri, and Cordelia T 16 February 1834, again in an unrecorded county, Missouri. Before 1836 the Cliftons removed to Clifton, Grant, Wisconsin Territory,[5] where Albert Fletcher (about 1836) and Mary Matilda (20 September 1838) were born.
In 1855 the Clifton household in Clifton contained 2 males and 1 female.[6] The 1850 United States Census reveals the members of the household; Bosman and Sarah, of course, but also Albert F., their youngest surviving child.[7] In 1860[8] and 1870[9] Bosman and Sarah live alone; empty nesters at long last.
Bosman died 20 July 1872 in Martinville, Grant, Wisconsin.[2][3] He is buried beside Sarah at Rock Church Cemetery in Livingston.[10]

Clifton-3199 and Clifton-2771 appear to represent the same person because: They share the same wife and birth and death date
