Biography

John Cline was born October 18, 1826 in North Carolina, USA. He passed away on November 13, 1906 in Fayette County, Texas, USA. He was married to Sophronia T. Fain (1831-1901, then to Lucinda Evans (1809-1877). John and Lucinda had one child who was Jennie Cline Jackson (1851-1940). John was a private in the Confederacy during the Civil War as seen on his tombstone (see attached image). He is buried in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Flatonia, Fayette County, Texas, USA.[1]

A 1900 Federal Census in 44 Justice Precinct 6 Flatonia city Ward 1-4, Fayette, Texas, United States shows John, born October 1826, age 74 in North Carolina as head of household. His parents were both born in North Carolina. He is living with his wife of 48 years, Sophronia, age 69, born in Georgia and grand daughter Ida Williams age 25, foster son Will Thomas age 35. The census record estimates they were married in 1852. [2]

NOTE John Cline was 21 years old when he married the 37 year old Lucinda. Her first husband, Samuel Lattimore, died leaving Lucinda a wealthy widow with 8 children. This was in Cleveland Co.,N.C. Lucinda had 8 children at the time she married John Cline. Some of the children were older than John. See notes from Betty Jo Cluck for details.
