Mahnomen Pioneer Thur. Aug 4, 1977 p.13 Roy E. Coalwell services are held in Ulen on Monday Services were held at Calvary Lutheran church in Ulen last Mon. afternoon fro Mahnomen resident Roy E. Coalwell, who passed away Thur. Jul 27, 1977 at the Mahnomen Nursing Center. He was 73. Mr. Coalwell was born in Pine Island, MN on May 23, 1904, the son of Leonard & Grace Coalwell. As a young child he came to Ulen in the northwest portion of that state. He operated a dray line in Ulen for many yrs, & then later in life worked at the wood conversion plant in Cloquet. He came back to this area of the state to operated a garbage service in Detroit Lakes. For the past 12 yrs Mr. Coalwell had made his home in Mahnomen with William Regeth. The man was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, & a sister. His only survivor is a brother, Richard Coalwell, from Detroit Lakes. Officiating at the funeral on Aug 1, was Rev. Wilfred Frick. Organist Mrs. Clinton Klemetson accompanied soloist Lyle Manthe. A flag presentation was made by representatives of the Mahnomen American Legion, as Mr. Coalwell had served in WWII. Pallbearers were Ted Purrier, Kenneth Wang, Robert Coalwell, Steve Coalwell, Loren Coalwell, & David Coalwell. Interment was in the North Ulen cemetery. Arrangements for the services were made by the Mattson Funeral Home in Mahnomen.
