Loveday Cobbe was born in 1875 in County Offaly, Éire, daughter of Richard Cobbe (1836–~1911) and Hannah Greene (1820–>1911).
Her father Richard, son of John Cobbe, married her mother Hannah Greene on 24 June 1858 in Killenvoy, Ros, Ireland.[1]
On the 13th of March, 1901 In the 1901 census she was inthe household of her father Richard (age 65), who was a Farmer, and the married head of household in Wood of O, Ballycommon, King's Co., Ireland. He cited his birth place as KIngs County, and his birth years as 1836 plus he was noted as having LIteracy able to Read and Write English. (Not many could boast that so he MUST have come from educated parents). He also had a daughter called Loveday. Who married Benjamin Griffith. Loveday at the time of the 1901 Census was 26 years old and her and Benjamin were living with her father Richard. Loveday is a sister to John Cobbe our Minister of Justice. Loveday and Benjam,in had John Griffith (son); 1 at the time of census born in 1900; and Richard Cecil Griffith only born in 1901. The family were living at a Number 11 but no street is mentioned in Wood of O. You can see a small amount of info on Wood of O at this location : [2]
Richard Cobbe was 65 years of age and Protestant / Church of Ireland. His wife is confirmed as Hannah which further (other than the marriage record I have cited on his Biography) further confirms her status as wife. Interstingly in 1901 only Loveday is shown as the sibling at home. By this time probably John was in New Zealand. He was noted as having LIteracy able to Read and Write English. [3]
