Biography

James Pollitt Cocker was born to Valentine & Mary (Pollitt) Cocker and was baptised on the 21st June 1829 at Salford, Manchester in Lancashire England.

In 1851 he was registered a being unmarried at 21 and working as an engine maker, tuner & fitter and living with his parents, five siblings and a nephew at Mount Pleasant Square, Manchester, Salford, Lancashire.

He married Maria Parry during the first quarter of 1854 at Hereford in Herefordshire.

In 1861 he was aged 31 and working as a Machine maker employing one man and one boy and they were living with three children Valentine bc1857, James bc1858 and maria bc1861 together with a Nephew James Brice aged 20 from Ross in Herefordshire and a servant Sarah All aged only 10 at 22, Arlington Street, Salford, Lancashire.
