Memorial at St Marys CHurch Battle Sussex
Horace Edwar Cockett was born 11/5/1892 an illegitimate son of Sophia Lily Cockett.
He served in the First World War where he was awarded the Miiitary Medal which was announced in the London Gazette on the 18/10/1917 and in the Sussex Daily News the following day. He was subsequently awarded the Bar and this was reported in the same newspaper 5/11/1917. These were awards during the THird Battle of YPRES on The Western Front. The medals are now housed in the Redoubt Museum,Eastbourne
A picture of Private Cockett appeared in the Hastings and St Leonards Pictorial Observer during July 1917.
His memorials are at Pozieres and in the churchyard of St Marys Church Battle Sussex.
