Biography
William Cockey, the son of Capt. John Cockey and his wife Elizabeth --?--, was born in Baltimore County on 20 FEB 1718. He was married about 1742 to Constant Ashman, the daughter of John Ashman.
According to the Baltimore County Debt Book of 1750, William owned the following properties in the county:
- Cockey's Trust 100 acs.
- Tye's Delight 66 acs.
- Cockey's Delight 118 acs.
- Helmore 200 acs.
- Helmore's Addition 119 acs.
- Anthony's Delight 50 acs.
- Cow Hill 66 acs.
- Cockey's Folly 100 acs.
William signed his will on 14 SEP 1746. He mentions five children:
- John b. abt 1743 m. Chloe Cromwell
- Constant b. abt 1748 m. William Corsey & William Bagford
- William b.abt 1746 m. Hannah Owings
- Rachel b. abt 1753 m. Richard Cromwell
- Elizabeth
The will also mentions his deceased father, John Cockey and his mother Elizabeth Baker, as well as his brother Edward and cousin John. Administration bond on the estate was filed on 22 NOV 1756.[1]
