William Cole was born in about 1795 in North Carolina. According to the birthplaces reported for his children, he was in Tennessee by about 1828.[1]
In 1860 William is living with his wife and two children in Benton. 1. Sarah was not in the 1850 Census and may be young wife of one of Wm.'s sons. County[2] and by 1870 he and his wife remain in the same area surrounded by relatives.[3] This pattern continues in 1880.[4]
According to the above census data, the children of William and his wife Sarah Ann may include:
Dennis born ca 1828, Ruffin born 29 May 1830, Mark R. Cole born 1836, John born 1837, William born 1839, Greer (or Green) born 1843, Sara born 1843.
William's date of death is unknown. He is buried in an unmarked grave in the family cemetery.[5]
