On 24 Aug 1818 Edward's will was in the probate court of Orange County, Virginia, USA. [1]

Item: I give to my son Richard T. Collins, my negro man Larkin, to be divided among his children.

It would appear the phrase "to be divided among his children" is in acknowledgment of son Richard having predeceased the father.

Lewis Collins, infant orphan of Richard Collins, deceased, being under 14 years of age, chose James Collins for his guardian. James Collins is also appointed guardian for Benjamin A. Collins, infant orphan of Richard Collins Court Bk B p431 NOTE: Grant Co KY was formed from Pendleton Co KY on 01 Apr 1820.

first born was Permelia Collins in 1806. (Permelia Collins becomes Permelia Noe, wife of Samuel Noe, and mother of Richard T. Noe b. 1830 in Kentucky,
When Thomas dies, Sarah files for guardianship of her minor children, including Thomas A. Collins, who isn't born until after his father's death. Sarah and her children are then beneficiaries of the estate of Edward Collins, d. 1818 in Orange County, Virginia, Thomas's father. Our working theory is that this settlement funds the journey of several Collins siblings to Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and eventually Missouri.

Sarah Harris Collins filed in Scott Co KY Will Bk C p 275-276 the inventory of the estate of Thomas Collins Apr 1818 Harrison Co KY Record Bk C p 503 1820 she was appointed guardian of her children. So it appears that perhaps, Thomas died in Scott Co KY
