The IGI records have: Thomas Collings baptised 28/7/1824 at the Wesleyan Chapel at Heptonstall. Mother Jane Collings (oddly recorded again 29/7/1825). There is another in 1825 at Birchcliffe Baptist Chapel but perhaps a bit late - parents William and Mary (with 4 possible marriages which would fit a William and Mary at Heptonstall in that time. The main reference book/baptisms/marriages/deaths at Heptonstall Parish Church collated by Douglas Wilson has nothing - their records end 1812 in the book (but can be searched at the library. However I find the IGI usually reliable on Heptonstall records. I can access Halifax archives if you need further help, Leslie Greenwood (a 'proper' Heptonstall name!), Kyandles@@aol.com Mon 3/8/2004 10:43 PM, I don't completely understand what you mean. BMD before 1837 become a lottery. Some churches have excellent records, others are non existent - and then you are at the mercy of accuracy (or not) of those who have read the registers.

Heptonstall registers have been done carefully and are now in book form for all BMD from the foundation of the church in late 1500 to early 1800s when library archives take over. I have all the books (they are very expensive!!) I will do look ups if you want. There is also the LDS site at www.familysearch.org Cross checking is difficult. The Collins Family are registered in the 1851 Census for Ovenden.
