He mar., second, Mrs. Lydia A. (Arnold) Litch, in Fitchburg, Mass., 22 Oct., 1851. He d. in Greennwich, Mass., 30 June, 1868. She mar., second, William Gunn. She was b. 4 July, 1805, in Braintree, Mass., and d. 1 Oct., 1882.
He was a man of puritanic sternness and steadfastness of character, and in all questions of his time, religious or political, he followed his convictions with unflinching fidelity. He was a firm supporter of the temperance cause from its inception, and for many years he was the only avowed "Abolitionist" in his town. Outspoken and fearless in the advocacy of his conception of the right, his purity of motive was recognized and respected by all, even by those from whom he most differed.
