"Among the earliest pioneers into Kentucky, from North Carolina, were Stephen Combs and his wife Barbara Allen." Apparently they went from Loudoun County, Virginia to North Carolina, and then to Lincoln County, Kentucky. They went to Lincoln prior to the birth of their youngest child Sarah in 1775. All that is known of Stephen was that he was born about 1750. It is believed that Stephen and Sarah died in the part of Lincoln County that later became Monroe County, and they were buried in Tompkinsville Burying Grounds. Their 11 children were:[2]
